C.N.A. training courses are designed to provide students with the knowledge nursing assistants need to provide basic care for their patients, as well as the ability to practice this care under the supervision of certified nurse instructors.

The Clinical Nursing Aide training program specifically targets those individuals who desire to become licensed C.N.A.'s in the state of Tennessee. The C.N.A. is a specially trained individual who works at an entry-level position under the supervision of a licensed nurse. C.N.A.'s are primarily employed at nursing homes, but may also find employment with hospitals and home health agencies. General duties are basic routine patient care which may include assisting with meals or exercise, taking vital signs, personal hygiene, and reporting signs and symptoms that may indicate illness.

Roane State’s program is 120 hours divided into three components of learning that include lecture, classroom skills and lab, and 24 hours of supervised patient care (clinical) in a long-term care facility.

The Nursing Aide/CNA course is approved by Tennessee Department of Health in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 42, Volume 3, Part 483.152.

This course will prepare the student to become a certified nursing assistant. Upon completion of the Nursing Aide course, the student is eligible to take the C.N.A. test administered by D&S Diversified Technologies for the Tennessee Department of Health.

Passing the state certification test provides the student with the title of C.N.A. (Certified Nursing Assistant). A student may be eligible for financial assistance from local agencies (i.e. American Job Center) to pay the tuition for the Nursing Aide/CNA program if they qualify.
